__MARKETHILL LIVESTOCK SALES__

An entry of 700 cattle at Markethill on Saturday 19^{th} September returned a generally firmer trade for heifers, bullocks and weanlings. Suckler cows continued to sell in a very firm demand.

The 240 heifers sold in an exceptionally good demand with beef heifers to £242 per 100k for 646k BB at £1565 from a Cullyhanna farmer, followed by £236 per 100k for 612k at £1445 from a Cullyhanna farmer. Top price beef heifer was £1685 for 768k, £219 per 100k, from a Killylea farmer, followed by £1655 for 750k, £220 per 100k, from a Killylea farmer. Main demand for beef heifers from £210 to £225 per 100k with several heifers selling from £1400 to £1600 each. Forward heifers reached £244 per 100k for 514k BB at £1255 from a Cullyhanna farmer, followed by £242 per 100k for 510k at £1235. Main demand from £200 to £235 per 100k. Good quality midweight heifers sold from £200 to £245 per 100k for 390k CH at £955 for a Newry farmer, followed by £232 per 100k for 380k at £885 for a Glenanne farmer. Top price midweight heifer was £1095 for 476k LIM.

The 280 bullocks returned a firmer trade with good quality beef bullocks selling from £200 to £223 per 100k for 720k at £1605 from a Keady farmer, followed by £220 per 100k for 758k LIM at £1665 from a Cullyhanna farmer. Main demand for good quality beef bullocks from £200 to £223 per 100k. Forward feeding bullocks sold to £225 per 100k for 598k at £1345 from a Warrenpoint farmer, followed by £223 per 100k for a 530k at £1185 from a Moira farmer.

The sale average for 180 heavy bullocks and forward store bullocks was 590k at £1170, £198 per 100k. This includes Friesian cattle.

All good quality feeding bullocks sold from £200 to £220 per 100k. Good quality midweight bullocks sold from £200 to £250 per 100k for 406k LIM at £1015 from an Annaghmore farmer. The same owner received £245 per 100k for 434k LIM at £1065. Top price for midweight bullock was £1125 paid for a 466k CH, £241 per 100k, from a Loughinisland producer and for 480k CH, £234 per 100k, from a Downpatrick farmer.

Good quality Friesian bullocks sold from £150 to £175 per 100k for £648k at £1135 from a Keady producer, followed by £172 per 100k for 620k at £1065 from a Stewartstown farmer.

A smaller entry of 140 weanlings sold in a noticeably stronger demand with good quality light male weanlings selling from £240 to £330 per 100k for 268k at £885 for a Portadown farmer, followed by £329 per 100k for 304k LIM at £1000 from a Richhill producer. The same owner received £318 per 100k for 314 Lim at £1000. Stronger males sold from £200 to £265 per 100k for a 404k BB at £1070 from a Portadown farmer. The same owner received £248 per 100k for 428k BB at £1060.

Good quality heifer weanlings sold from £210 to £278 per 100k for 306k CH at £850 from a Keady farmer. Top price for a heifer was £1020 for 384k, £266 per 100k, for a Moy producer.

Cows and calves sold to a top of £1620, £1600 and £1560. Several more good quality outfits sold from £1100 to £1500 each.

The same owner received £245 per 100k for 434k LIM at £1065. Top price for midweight bullock was £1125 paid for a 466k CH, £241 per 100k, from a Loughinisland producer and for 480k CH, £234 per 100k, from a Downpatrick farmer.

Good quality Friesian bullocks sold from £150 to £175 per 100k for £648k at £1135 from a Keady producer, followed by £172 per 100k for 620k at £1065 from a Stewartstown farmer.

A smaller entry of 140 weanlings sold in a noticeably stronger demand with good quality light male weanlings selling from £240 to £330 per 100k for 268k at £885 for a Portadown farmer, followed by £329 per 100k for 304k LIM at £1000 from a Richhill producer. The same owner received £318 per 100k for 314 Lim at £1000. Stronger males sold from £200 to £265 per 100k for a 404k BB at £1070 from a Portadown farmer. Good quality heifer weanlings sold from £210 to £278 per 100k for 306k CH at £850 from a Keady farmer. Top price for a heifer was £1020 for 384k, £266 per 100k, for a Moy producer.
